In the suspenseful thriller novel WolfsBane, two Wildlife Rangers investigate reports concerning rabid wolves in the woods surrounding the tourist town of Sevierville. As graduate students who helped reintroduce red wolves in the region years ago, Cliff and Stan have a vested interest in the health of the species. The two rangers begin their research by tranquilizing a wolf and transporting the animal back to the laboratory where they begin tests to try and uncover the potential threat to the wolf population.
