Mind Your Mind
Ignacio Valle
The scientific vision about ourselves, humans, and the circumstances that determine our behavior has changed radically since the end of the last century. Scientific knowledge has made great strides in understanding our rationality, and its enormous overlap with emotions, which in turn are unleashed in our body and mind and whose future reproducibility, in the face of certain stimuli, is stored in our long-term memory. Through meditative practices such as mindfulness we can see for ourselves the forces that direct our behaviour. This knowledge and this full attention to our mind, practiced moment by moment, is the escape from determinism often caused by those same forces operating in our human nature.
