After a bitter divorce from his wife of twenty-three years, fifty-two-year-old James Thompson meets Cynthia Strathmore, a mother with two sons. James thinks she is Mrs. Right, but little does he know how wrong that theory will be. The next years of his life will prove that.

James moves into Cynthia's home, and the couple marries. But soon he begins to experience eerie occurrences and demonic intervention; what's more, he feels an increasing undercurrent of evil in the house. Tension grows among James, Cynthia, and the two young men. James isn't overly religious, but the odd events lead him to seek a more spiritual source for help dealing with the evil that has become an unwelcome part of his life.

In trying to deal with the malevolence and hold his marriage together, James faces more than any sane man should endure. With many sources of evil present, the cards are stacked against him, and it takes both patience and time to determine if he will be able to keep his life, and his sanity, together.
