Hope and Henny live in a world that's taken a very wrong turn. It hardly ever rains anymore. There are no flowers and there are no trees, except for the one that grows in Hope's backyard and makes City Hall very nervous. But something is happening to Hope. Suddenly, she knows all sorts of things she didn't know she knew ... more than her teachers, more than anybody. And why is she suddenly seeing things no one else can see? But most frightening of all are the strange things happening all around her. Is she the cause or is she just imagining it all? When her best friend Henny suggests a séance with Madam Wanda, what happens scares everyone half to death. A new group of strange friends, a talking book, a gigantic dog, and a growing menace eventually convince Hope that she must step up and do all she can, even in the face of great danger. The whole world is counting on her.
