Jason's new life with Maria is a delicate balancing act between using his power judiciously to keep some semblance of control over it and not compromising Maria's obligations as a police detective or religious convictions. Despite the challenges, their fledgling relationship grows as they find their own means of navigating the unique perils their respective gifts bring to bear. Just as things appear to settle Jason's friends are subjected to a paranormal attack, something he is duty bound to respond to. New attacks start on multiple fronts from unrelated sources and inevitably disparate events become entwined. Jason finds himself spinning plates in all directions but as events grow more complicated if one plate falls the others will quickly follow. As the threats escalate, the solutions become more desperate and he finds himself becoming an enemy of the Catholic Church, potentially putting him at odds with Maria. Having entered the game the stakes have rapidly climbed beyond what he would have expected and the only way he can see to win risks exposing his true nature to the Church, threatening his anonymity. With threats coming from all sides, and up against witches, demons, Russian mafia and now the Church he is facing a stacked deck. In his favour now is greater understanding of his power and how it works, along with a few tricks he has picked up along the way. Jason will need that new experience and all the tricks at his disposal to keep himself and those he loves safe and his relationship with Maria in-tact. Once again, he is in a high stakes game with everything on the table just to make it through to the next round.
