Mr. Sawyer, an idealistic teacher who loses hope, knowing all too well that happiness has escaped him, makes a proclamation that he will change his life by changing his attitude. He decides that in the morning he will wake up a new man, driven to self-improvement. And he does exactly that, even waking up early, starting his day with a jog through the park on a trail that leads him to Nosta, an addict bent on hurting all he encounters. Nosta and Sawyer meet in the one way we all dread: through a reckless and premeditated act of violence. Yet, it is in that moment of rage and hate, that we are challenged to consider the unwelcome consequence of hurt, the doctrine of forgiving those who have wronged us, and Nosta and Sawyer will forever be linked on a spiritual plane, one that requires we forgive, knowing that we can never forget.
