Tammy Usher is as efficient a mid-level Washington bureaucrat in the Department of Transportation as bureaucracy allows her to be. She is confident that all in her life is going according to her plan. Unlike the many fools around her, she is certain that if a really good public works idea came her way she would know how to act to make sure it was accomplished. Then one day a really good idea actually does comes her way. Tammy finds her comfortably planned life upset as she navigates the twisting maze of the often overly complicated Washington insider world to try to get the new idea on the right track. The Washington insider world seems to be designed with one purpose in mind, to crush a person?s hopes and dreams. Can Tammy navigate the good idea through the technical evaluation where the technical review process judges you and not your ideas to find you worthy or not of their time and you find out unless you are a collectable figurine; you?re not worth their time? Can Tammy find an investor in a world where investors earn their money the old fashion way-their parents die and leave it to them? Can Tammy find critical political support between liberals, who are more interested in bringing the fight to each other than anyone else, and conservatives, who can talk and talk yet they never seem to say anything worth listening too? Can Tammy get the support of vaguely religious think tanks where most of their thinking is about filling their tanks with your money? Can Tammy attract an artisan lobbyist that is sure to lie, cheat and steal but are needed because they get results-just not good ones? Maybe Tammy can, but not to any positive affect. When all hope seems lost out emerges the hope of this futures new Gilded Age; the self-made man, Peter McKinnon. He?s just like you-only important. He likes you-just not very much. You can trust him with your ideas-just not your life. He dreams of owning everything and that includes the future. Can Tammy survive in his utopian island society with no rules, regulations, government and pure capitalism? Can anyone?
