Nathan Stern, Ph. D., is a well-respected psychologist in the community who along with his wife, Dr. Joanne Stern, have a successful and thriving practice in clinical psychology. Nathan's rather stable and predictable life is moving along quite well until a series of anonymous letters, containing curiously worded prose, arrives to his home and places his personal and professional life at risk. The letters, which arouse a sense of foreboding doom, sets in motion an investigative journey which combines Nathan's clinical acumen coupled with a police inquiry conducted by Detective Bev Granger, who both search for a plausible explanation. When a series of deaths involving Nathan's close colleagues, a psychiatrist, Dr. Benjamin Solomon, and a psychologist, Dr. Gerald Zwick, connects his past professional training life to his current clinical work, the search to identify the mystery behind the troublesome correspondences is revealed in an engaging and intriguing story. Nathan is forced to revisit his formative years as a young developing psychologist to better comprehend the present circumstances of his personal dilemma. The story culminates with Nathan's personal safety at a point of greatest vulnerability, only to be tested one more time.
