The Captain's Polygraph
C. Hurchel Stagner
In Officer`s Club of Fort McClellan, a senior officer submitted a resolution to the officers present, calling for opposition to their Commander-in-Chief, President Kennedy. One officer, a Captain, rose and adamantly objected to the Resolution. Several weeks later, the Captain was required to approve a resolution before three senior officers. A month later, a recently retired Colonel from the Pine Bluff Arsenal apprised the Captain of a similar effort at his installation. This information indicated a national military treasonous effort to oppose President Kennedy originating in the Washington, D. C. area. In 1963, the Captain was ordered hospitalized in the Valley Forge General Hospital where, from a psychiatric ward, he experienced the assassination of President Kennedy. Many high ranking military officers were opposed to President Kennedy`s handling of several international crises. One month before the killing in Dallas, he ordered the beginning of the United States troop withdrawal from Viet Nam-1000 soldiers were to be out by January 1, 1964. The checks and balances for the prevention of a repetitive resolution of presidential opposition by military officers and subsequent possible treasonous actions remain to be made known.
