The characters of the novel are no heroes but ordinary people whose bureaucratic lives are interrupted suddenly by events that force them to make life-threatening choices. But when it came time to introduce his nine year old son to the joys of writing, a change of genres was in order. He took on the challenge of creating a middle grade novel with the help of his son. They role played the dialog together to make sure it was how kids talked. They did research on the setting and science used in the story to ensure accuracy for inquiring young minds. They created, read, rewrote, edited and read again to get the story as perfect as it could be.
