A Baltimore newspaper crime beat reporter is compelled by law to share with the FBI information regarding a story he wrote titled "The Angel of Darkness". The Special Agent in charge of the case agrees to allow the reporter to join his team because of a relationship he shares with the suspect. Several years later the reporter writes a novel telling his story as an insider who witnessed first hand what has become a case study for the FBI-BAU.
