JONAH. WHAT'S YOUR WHALE? is more that a Bible study, it's meant to be help you understand who you are and how you became who you are. Jonah found his identity in the whale yet he must have been haunted by the memories of being in that great fish (which we errantly call a whale) for three days, trapped inside a living hell. That time incarcerated changed the course of his life. He found purpose inside that great fish and yet it was in that terrible spot that he found his destiny. Did Jonah love his whale? I don't think so. But his whale is what made him into what he became. Jonah, having spent three days within his whale, emerged with a renewed sense of focus. Without his whale, Jonah would never have found himself. Are you haunted by a looming presence in your history that has affected your life? We all have our whales, sometimes they are large, lumbering, and friendly past incidents who have helped shape our lives, sometimes they are like images from Jaws that follow us, a fanged presence (fish, sharks, and whales do not really have fangs). They seem to haunt our every move. We're not talking about a whale like Moby Dick, you don't have to fight your whale, you don't have to kill your whale, you just need to know and understand what it is that made you the person you are today. By examining the story behind you, we'll gain insight into ourselves. So, Who's Your Whale? What's Your Whale?
