A young man murders twenty-six eight to ten-year-olds during recess at their school using semiautomatic handguns and rifles. He escapes temporarily, but is finally killed by police. Once again, many are outraged at the ease with which the murderer was able to purchase guns and ammo and cry out for gun control, and once again many argue the opposite. One Aaron Mackenzie, a Pennsylvania state senator and eloquent speaker reaches out to both with a eulogy on the tenth anniversary of the event and in a series of guest editorials for the Washington Post. With his newfound fame, he runs for and gets elected U. S. senator from his home state. From there he rides his notoriety to an incredible finale that no one, not even he, expects.
