Deputy Knight has just become the new constable of the small foothill town of Enchanted Woods, California. A job he doesn't want but figures will be a good career move. On his first day, he meets Jack Wolfe of the notorious Wolfe family: a clan which has not seen a crime they won't commit. But Jack seems different, almost law abiding compared to his kin. Wolfe laughs at Knight's name when they met. "You'll get the joke soon enough." He then tells his girlfriend "He's the Knight here to save us from our curse." For Enchanted Woods California appears cursed. Weird stuff just keeps happening. All resembling children's stories and poems. Rats invade when the local street musician doesn't play. A woman is held hostage by her husband in a house called "The Pumpkin Shell". A truck turns over full of gingerbread men blocking the road into town. And so on.... Not to mention local sightings of Bigfoot. But Knight has a secret that might help. As he tells a man he arrests: "Every good fairy story needs a fairy...well, an elemental. A different kind of human." And Knight and his relatives who live in the woods around Enchanted is just that. But will Knight's special "powers" protect the town not only from the curse but a ruthless real estate developer. A woman who will stop at nothing, including perhaps murder, to get what she wants. And what she wants is Knight gone.
