Retired Customs Officer Gordon Valentino Kettle has time on his hands, most of which he spends on his allotment. Described by a friend as 'a disreputable old rogue with a doubtful temper and a taste for whisky', he is also known as a good listener and a man of discretion. Many visitors treat his shed as a confessional and tell him their secrets and problems they would not reveal to anyone else. But Gordon is not a man to mince his words and occasionally his advice is not what the recipient wishes to hear. Life on the allotment is never dull.
