19-year-old film student Trini Diaz thinks she has everything: a hot boyfriend, a loyal best friend named Mac, and a mom who's pretty cool. Over winter break, this all gets turned upside down. Her boyfriend breaks up with her. Her mom reveals Trini's dad actually isn't her biological father, and Mac tells Trini he's loved her for a long time. Her life will never be the same. And maybe that's a good thing. 20-year-old Mac lives at home with his parents. He has no ambition to leave, or at least that's what many people think. He has a dream to be a successful singer-songwriter, like his hero James Taylor. But fears induced by autism, anxiety, and depression keep Mac in his shell. One night he takes a chance, kissing Trini and confessing his true feelings. Even if she doesn't feel the same, Mac knows that making that leap of faith is the only way to move ahead. Can Trini and Mac make that leap into the unknown together, even if it's the scariest thing either will ever do?
