Detective Michael McAllister is puzzled after finding a multi-million dollar Bugatti, missing for over 80 years, because his phone has remained silent for a month; not a good case or client anywhere in sight. His frustration finally changes dramatically when not one, but two potential clients ask for help. An aging rock star living in Malibu begs for a visit from the detective duo, which includes the detective's rich girlfriend, Tanya Stafford, but refuses to divulge why he can't ask for help from the police. At the same time an old-timer in Ojai has received a threatening package, dredging up a 40 year old murder case in the process. As if the new cases are not enough, McAllister is challenged at a party to look into the oldest unsolved murder in Ventura's history, the burning of a woman tied to a tree over-looking the city in the 1970's. He refuses immediately but Tanya decides it is time to take on a case of her own, with startling consequences.
