STANDING STILL is one woman's inspirational journey to find God in everyday life. Catherine A. Engel was born into a conservative Catholic family, but through marriage into a different faith tradition she learned that God appears in many forms around the world. After suffering through two separate illnesses as an adult, she learned that the darkness of the soul contains many gifts for those who are brave enough and willing enough to embrace them. Ms. Engel uses various types of prayer to assist her in her search for God, including Centering Prayer and other forms of meditation. She still practices Catholicism, but in a more inclusive and ecumenical form than the rigid one she learned as a child. This book holds much encouragement for those who are struggling to make sense of the gray areas they find in their lives.
