Christopher Kowalski and his best friend Joe Murphy are seniors at the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and members of the crew team. They believe in their team and are determined to avenge an embarrassing showing in the previous year's Head of the Charles regatta at the hands of the U. S. Naval Academy. Their season begins with a single goal, but quickly evolves into a series of adventures and missteps as the team progresses through the fall regatta season. Kowalski believes he is just a part of the team until his new coach and alumnus, Bill Brubaker, shows Kowalski his true potential and unlocks his prowess at the sport of crewing. But just as Kowalski takes the leadership role for the team, a mysterious young lady disrupts his organized world and changes everything for both Kowalski and his teammates. Kowalski's journey at the academy is that of friendship, camaraderie, loyalty, and love. Kevin Duffy takes us into the world of the plebes and upperclassmen, giving light on how it is like to be part of a prestigious college where men are taught of honor and discipline, and where they become the best of friends without even knowing it.
