Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, Smoke, from his early childhood days witnessed domestic violence and experienced abuse by the hands of his own father. When his mother turns to drugs for comfort, Smoke ventures out into the mean streets of Los Angeles seeking the respect and security he never found at home. Only to find more abuse, community violence, and daily drama. His sad, emotional, disturbing and at the same time extremely insightful story is only one of many. This book provides a rare insight into the emotional world of a boy growing to be a man, a story of someone who, after years of being trapped in these streets, is dealing with the severe after-effects of this lifestyle.
