When Aaron and Rafaela have settled into the community that was founded by his mother's friends, and based in part on her medical philosophy, they find purpose, meaning, and consorts. Rafaela pursues the initiation into adulthood and lifework that she had delayed in Denver, and Aaron brings his mother's embodied wisdom to the community. With the aid of his consort, and through obstacles such as the consequences of travel through an unmarked poisoned barren, Aaron forms a legacy that will sustain the community when Sarah is gone.
