When mixed race lawyer Jade Hadid ends up drinking way too much at a work event, her friend Josh to come to the rescue. He insists on helping her home, bundling them both into a cab and walking her to the door. But suddenly Josh is inviting himself in, slipping Jade's shoes off, helping himself to wine, taking off his tie.

Everything after that is a blank. Jade wakes the next morning, alone, with no memory of how she got home. It's only after a series of debilitating flashbacks that Jade starts to unravel the truth and confront her trauma.

Along the way, the ripple effect of sexual assault on the people who love Jade can be seen: with her doting Baba and her feisty Omma, the generational culture clash becomes more of a barrier; with her colleagues who begin to isolate her; and with friends who she suddenly sees in a different light. But the brunt of the strain falls on Jade's long-term relationship with a man incapable of understanding how to support her. As Jade embarks on a journey of self-discovery and identity, the good friends she has helping to bear her burden, she finds she can now be the person she always wanted to be; and determines not to be defined by her trauma.
