Hephzibah thought she understood the world and how it worked. At seventeen, she was eager to be on her own and wanted, more than anything, to control her own fate. She wanted to help those in need and believed the best path toward that goal was through the teachings of Jesus Christ. What she did not know about the world would land her in the clutches of one of the most notorious and sinister cults in American history. Her desire to alleviate the suffering of others turns into a fight for her survival as well as the survival of her family. When Hephzibah realizes how deeply ensnared she'd become in the manipulation of madman, her faith is tested beyond anything she could have ever predicted. She is forced to choose between God and saving her family, even though she fears her soul may face eternal damnation. How could she have known the man with the Bible in his hand could not be trusted? How could she have known that Pastors, Ministers, Church Elders and others representing Christ's cause could be as manipulative and lust driven as any serial criminal in society? How could she ever have understood that given the right set of circumstances a person's will could be destroyed and re-molded to the point they'd become de-facto slaves to their new master, cult leader, guru or spouse? How could Hephzibah have anticipated that being in God's grace would mean abandoning her most fundamental beliefs as well as everything that made her who she was or would ever become? Knowledge is power and what one doesn't know can be the difference between life and death.
