Carlene thought she had cared for the last of her babies; but the Lord saw fit to send her another. The foster baby she was about to receive was an eight-month-old black girl with serious health problems, who had been in the hospital most of her life. The task would end up being a tougher challenge than she could have imagined at the time. In Mississippi in the 1990s, there weren't many homes for this tiny child to go to even if she had been healthy-let alone one with such severe health issues.
