Humility is not necessarily linked to the way an individual shows himself to others, so modesty is not a form of humility but rather a "demonstration" of humility that can be quite achieved by a person without humility. Similarly, pride is not incompatible with humility, an individual can be proud of him for what he has achieved, precisely because he has enough humility to realize that he has done a lot for what he is. By contrast, it is often for lack of humility that an individual devalues himself, overestimating his own abilities and therefore considering his achievements as mediocre.
