This wasn't their destination. The system had to suns, and instead of a few large landmasses, the one habitable planet boasted a wide-ranging archipelago of islands. But with PERIHELION too damaged to continue further this world had to suffice. So the duty crew woke the command staff, who selected the exploration teams and sent them out to scout for a suitable site. Mark Elders woke to unfamiliar surroundings. His first job: to assist in ramping up the crippled PERI in preparation for landing its passengers. His second duties: to brush up on his survival skills and learn about the new environment that would be their new home. But this new world had some unexpected surprises for them, and not all of them were good.
