Outside The Green Zone, anything and everything was allowed. There were no laws outside The Green Zone, and virtually no one to enforce them if there were. The Green Tower essentially controlled all that was once Florida, but they gave only sparse protection, basically zero, to anyone outside the official Green Zone. Only when circumstances required direct attention from The Green Tower, did its androids step in, laying down The Green Tower's version of martial law. Out here, in these dangerous lands, women outnumbered the men nearly 100-1. The wars against man, by man, had introduced something called, The Rot, to the world. This, Rot, was a virus that ate a man from the inside out. They never intended the virus, meant only to destroy the enemy, whoever that was, no side ever claimed the virus as their own, to become genetic, passed on from father and son through the sperm, but that was what happened. Now, nearly 100 years later, nearly 80 percent of all men die from the virus within weeks of being born, and out of the small percentage that does survive birth, nearly half die before the age of twenty. And some say those numbers are far better than they were fifty years ago... This was the world Teag lived in.
