I got to know confrontations in an unpleasant way. This has to do with the presence of the mental disorders PTSD, (open and hidden) narcissism, codependency, gaslighting (cunning manipulation technique of hidden narcissism) and TPS in the family in which I grew up. As HSP, I was overwhelmed in various ways by all kinds of negativity. Now that I am 62 years old and making progress with my therapy, I realize, as HSS, that I can learn and discover even more through confrontations. My curiosity is greater than my fears. So I would rather make a decision fairly quickly after careful consideration than that I have a long doubt. After a decision I have clarity. The same goes for confrontation. After a confrontation I have clarity. I follow the motto: confront, process and continue. I like to be open and direct in communication. Many people feel threatened by this, while I just want to communicate. I learn to confront in a calm and realistic way. I now do that outside the family in which I grew up. Because I don't let myself be limited anymore by the negative aspects that prevail in that family. Outside that family, I can express myself as freely as I want. In my negative youth, I was never allowed to express myself freely. That will change now. Confrontation is a way of expressing that suits me, and that I like very much.
