Wallace Leggett is a private investigator working for the crime bosses of Morterton City. Morterton's street battles are long over, and the major gangs have settled down to semi-respectable business. There's good money to be made for a man with few scruples. But Leggett's conscience is heavy with the things he's seen and done, and he wonders if his soul is lost forever. Leggett's latest case involves tracking down a fearsome thug named Mahler. He trawls the city's gutters, mingling with pimps, dealers, and hustlers. But his case also brings him into contact with Lara, a young street girl who is in over her head. Saving Lara from the streets might be Leggett's best shot at salvation. But what Leggett unearths in his pursuit of the thug and the girl might be evidence of a new gang in town, a gang looking to tear down the facade of respectability, and bring chaos and bloodshed back to the streets of Morterton. In the face of this growing threat, Leggett must decide what's more important to him - keeping his livelihood or keeping his soul.
