Aeryn Lefrançois is human.
Mostly.
Her childhood was spent surrounded by Wächter, but her mother forbade her from learning their secrets. As an adult she understands little of their struggles - the history of sacrifice and hardship, the decades of dwindling hope. In a field of sunflowers, her father gives her a glimpse into his world, tapping into the tiny bit of Guardian blood she has, manifesting what he calls

Years later, Aeryn's best friend Genesis Bellamy disappears because of what the word means, and her ignorance will not protect her from those who seek her family's ruin:
