An original member of the Jazz Crusaders, trombonist Wayne Henderson assembled the Freedom Sounds in 1967. One of the two seminal albums the band cut for Atlantic, 'People Get Ready' is an accessible mixture of R&B covers & original material, melding jazz, blues, soul, funk, gospel, Latin & pop idioms into an eclectic potpourri that reflects the experimental ethos of the late 1960's.
