Presented here are some of the best recordings by the fascinating Clifford Brown-Max Roach Quintet. Harold Land is the tenor saxophonist on CD1, while Sonny Rollins replaces him on the whole CD2. The group is completed by Richie Powell (Bud Powell's younger brother) on piano, and George Morrow on bass.

Contained here are the original albums Study in Brown (EmArcy MG36037), Clifford Brown & Max Roach (EmArcy MG26036), Clifford Brown and Max Roach at Basin Street (EmArcy MG36070) and Sonny Rollins Plus Four (Prestige PRLP7038).
