Harlem Street Singer Gary -Blind- Davis
Harlem Street Singer
Gary -Blind- Davis
Reverend Gary Davis was a singer-songwriter, master guitarist and a true virtuoso in the Piedmont blues fingerpicking style born in Laurens, South Carolina, in the Piedmont region. Jack White mentioned him as one of his guitar heroes in the documentary 'It Might Get Loud' and showed the reverend's videoclip of "Death Don't Have No Mercy" (He'll come to your house and he won't stay long). He played the guitar with his thumb and index finger on a way only a blind man can play it. As many of his songs were covered, this song was recorded by Hot Tuna, The Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan. If heaven really exists, Reverend Gary Davis will be playing at the gates to welcome us all in.
